The Women Redefining the Rave at Miami Music Week
When you talk about electronic dance music, the first thing that comes to mind is its peak in the 2010s, ruled by neon, fishnets, and the artists who cultivated the scene—Avicii, Skrillex, Clavin Harris, David Guetta, and Martin Garrix, to name a few.
While this era of EDM is arguably one of the best things to come out of that decade, it was dominated by men. In 2012, only 9.2% of festival artists were female.
Since then, EDM popularity has fluctuated, but as society pushes more young adults to find sanity in escapism, festivals are selling out, and the genre is back on its rise—so are female DJs and producers.
While equality in the dance scene is far from found, in 2025, 32% of DJs are women. Although they’re still the underdogs, the females are not only killing it, they’re redefining the genre—and captivating all lovers of EDM along the way.
And the thing is—they don’t miss. Every set brings chills, every song is a banger, their styles are unmatched, and their vibe is electric. Because women are working so tirelessly to compete with their male counterparts, they are producing music that is not only up to par but arguably better—and they’re finally starting to get the recognition they deserve.
The long-awaited Miami Music Week (MMW) is almost here. March 25th will be the start of five days of non-stop EDM provided by DJs and producers from around the world. Highlighting the week is the iconic Ultra Music Festival, which is celebrating its 25th anniversary this year.
Lineups from this year’s shows are stacked, so here are the must-see women on the rise and ready to throw down in Miami.
