The Revival of 1960s Glamour

I think we can all agree that Priscilla Presley's wedding makeup is the blueprint for 1960s glamour. The simple eyelid with the cut crease, the dramatic lashes, and the penciled arched eyebrows capture the overall look of this era. Her winged eyeliner creates a dramatic eye look that is effective, but not too in-your-face. The application of her eyeliner on her lid following through to her inner corner helped create the sharp cat-eye effect. The impression of Pricilla’s wedding makeup is simple yet striking. To truly master the eyeshadow look of the 60s, one must apply a cool-toned eyeshadow base followed by an aggressive cut crease. To top the makeup off, full and long lashes are essential. The base and contour of this look are finished with an overall matte complexion that utilizes less foundation and more powder products. As you can see, Pricilla ran with heavily lined eyebrows that were extremely arched and filled in from the front. Pricilla chose a nude lined lip with a nude eyeshadow to complete her look. A unique thing about these glamour trends is that they seem to be timeless. Although certain techniques have been left in the past, including stenciled brows and heavily lined nude lips, many people continue to replicate the trends of this era today.

Let's be honest here, Pricilla Presley walked so Lana Del Rey could run. Lana Del Rey is one of the first artists that come to mind who currently embodies the retro look of the 60s. Lana has continued to rock the winged eyeliner, the matte foundation, and the nude lip. Through her glamour, style, and music, Lana has created a mysterious 60s aura that has always drawn people in. This icon has inspired many others to embrace this timeless and even vintage look in their everyday regimen. As time passes, trends from the 60s continue to come back as people gravitate towards achieving a timeless look with their makeup. Creativity will consistently come into play with each era, and Lana has always mimicked the retro-chic vibe with her own modern twist.

It isn’t surprising that major celebrities like Arianna Grande are also embracing the revival of the 60s look. Arianna’s beauty brand REM fully embodies trends of the 60s, where she promotes her midnight shadows, matte liquid base shadow, and her dream lashes. This icon has continued to incorporate the iconic winged liner look in album covers, along with her teased voluminous hairstyles that mimic the 60s. Although there are countless reasons the 60s movement is making its way back, Arianna Grande has a large fanbase that follows in her footsteps and recreates their own versions of her style.
