The Return of Jeffree Star

Amid the controversial beauty community lies a beauty guru who is not afraid to state what is on his mind.  He is controversial; some love him, and some do not. However, everyone knows they can count on his candidness. Jeffree Star has been a figure in the beauty community since 2013, though he recently moved to a ranch in Wyoming to escape the scandalous life in Los Angeles.

After taking some time off from doing makeup reviews, he recently made his return amid the famous Mikayla Nogueira’s Mascara Scandal, known as “Mascaragate.”  For some background, Mikayla Nogueira posted a paid ad for L’Oréal reviewing their newest Telescopic Mascara. She applied one coat of mascara and cut the camera to a different angle to show how effective the product was, only for fans to discover she was wearing a false lash.  Followers were quick to catch on, but Mikayla denied the accusations.  Many members of the beauty community were extremely upset over a deceptive review, so they turned to an honest beauty influencer to tell them the truth.

In Jeffree Star’s review of the mascara, he stated how he makes his own money and does not take money from any brands to do a review.  He made it clear that he is not against those who make money from doing paid ads but prefaced by stating that beauty influencers, like Mikayla, set the tone now.  He then began to use the mascara according to the instructions and stated it was a good mascara, but it was not “the greatest thing on the planet” and that he is “not getting paid to say that.”  Jeffree even tagged Mikayla in the video which sparked a lot of interest with viewers, as he was officially calling her out.

Jeffree Star has now gone on to review several other makeup and skincare brands like Selena Gomez’s Rare Beauty and Hailey Bieber’s Rhode Skincare, a hot topic due to the dispute between the two celebrities. Allegedly, Hailey Bieber was caught with Kylie Jenner bullying Selena Gomez.

Jeffree has clarified that he is “Team Selena” and does not condone bullying.  He reviewed Rare Beauty, giving it his famous “Jeffree Star Approval.”  He received Rhode Skincare via PR and did not even decide to fully review the products as he stated he “doesn’t support a bully.”  He then proceeded to throw the products in the trash.  This sparked a lot of controversies as some people were on Jeffree’s side and others were slamming him for being a bully himself.

Without considering Jeffree a controversial figure, the beauty community is shaken by his candid character.  Many speculate that the return of Jeffree Star will unveil the truth behind beauty influencers and brand deals. Some argue that he is making a comeback to promote his infamous brand, Jeffree Star Cosmetics. Others believe his comeback will change the beauty industry forever. While the arguments all look in different directions, it is safe to say that the beauty community is anxious to see more “Jeffree Star Approved” products.
