STRIKEOWEEN: Strike Athens hottest costumes
Since the entire population coincidentally decided that Halloween was last Saturday, I have kept a catalog of the best costumes that I have seen this year. Halloween is arguably the most fashionable time of year, no matter if you go all out or throw on a pair of cat ears and call it a day. Here are a list of the most popular costumes I have seen on my pre-Halloween escapades.
Troy and Charli: following the end of Brat summer, people have donned their miniest of skirts and tightest of tank tops to complete the look of the number one duo of 2024. However, this look can be completed as a pair or duo. I have seen a number of individuals sporting the classic look from Troy Sivan’s Got Me Started music video, while others rocking looks similar to the SWEAT tour, which Sivan and Charli XCX recently toured. Another popular contender was simply the iconic brat album. This looks like a green outfit combo, or a green morph suit for hardcore fans.
Clowns: A classic costume, with a new twist. Due to the rise in popularity of unique and intricate makeup looks over the past few years, clowns have transitioned from their gory Halloween roots to a more avant-garde style. People have taken a vintage clown look and added their personal flair through different shapes and colors. This costume speaks to those who are more artsy, but still enjoy an eerie chill.
The Halloween simplicities: Cats, Careers, and Creatures Oh My!
A classic black cat, cheetah, or tiger. Police officers, fire fighters, nurses, and cowboys. Vampires, zombies, and fairies. The thing they all have in common: we made them sexy. The classic costumes return every year, without fail, and we can never get enough. The simplicity of being able to throw on an outfit that makes you feel confident, and turn it into the perfect costume via a few accessories. The ease and affordability of these costumes make them extremely popular each year.
A24 Films: The popularity of these films is without notice, and can be credited to the massive amounts of praise movies such as Everything Everywhere All At Once, Moonlight, and Lady Bird have received. A24 films are also noted to create very recognizable characters that translate into Halloween costumes this year. The blood-soaked denim overalls of Mia Goth's character Maxine from X can be seen on every corner. Other popular costumes to note are Peter Graham from Hereditary, and Lou from Love Lies Bleeding.
Niche Internet Celebrities: In the age of the World Wide Web, new internet celebrities pop up weekly it seems. With this comes a following, and ultimately an assortment of Halloween costumes. Celebs such as Tana Montague and Trisha Paytas can be seen yearly. A new contender this year was an ode to 2000s Kesha, featuring a blonde wig and turquoise highlights, and 2000s Justin Bieber sporting his signature purple outfits. Trendy animals, such as last month's icon Moo Deng can be seen rocking the streets. On a darker take, the recently released Gypsy Rose Blanchard has become costume inspo for certain individuals. It just goes to show that ANYTHING can be made into a costume.
No matter what costume you decide to wear, Halloween is a time to have fun and feel confident. So put that outfit on, go out with your friends, and make memories for the second weekend of Halloween 2024!
Strike Out,
Maura
