STAUD SS24 Felt Like a Time Capsule to the Late 90s

The fashion label STAUD, founded by Sarah Staudinger and artistic director George Augusto, had its SS24 show at the renowned Plaza Hotel in Midtown Manhattan. "The goal is to be an American heritage brand, and doing a show at a place like The Plaza makes you feel like you have something to live up to…." said Augusto on the still relatively new brand.
"The history attracted us, the venue is important to the show and the experience, so it made sense with the concept of this being more of a minimalistic approach. It's mega and minimal at the same time," Staudinger said of the setting and collection of the show. And it was; the vibes were light, carefree, simple, and retro.
The color scheme for the collection was gorgeous, with soft pastels we know will be popular in the springtime. Models twirled and frolicked carefree down the runway, creating a fun and whimsical atmosphere when watching the show but making it hard to focus and digest the pieces.
Influencers such as Olivia Ponton, Isa Sung, Ellie Zeiler, and Dylana Suarez were in attendance for the show. As well as tech billionaire Jeff Bezos and his fiancee Lauren Sanchez. Model Grace Elizabeth opened and closed the show in two stunning looks.
STAUD has continued to do this season as always, with solid colors and straightforward cuts and silhouettes. Quiet luxury is the continued theme that made the collection simple yet effective. It felt like looking into a time capsule that took you back to the late 90's, as many of the pieces were notably inspired by Karl Lagerfeld's Chanel and Balmain's Couture Spring 1999 shows.
Ball Gown-esque, taffeta maxi skirts were paired with cotton tops, and ballet flats were the show's shoe, sure to be in rotation the following season. As they are known for their gorgeous, detailed bags, it was surprising to see their lack thereof showcased on the runway. And with only one denim look, there was the hope of seeing many more, considering their recent collaboration with Wrangler.
Compared with many shows this season at NYFW, nothing was particularly new about this collection. Still, this collection continues to cement this fresh brand identity. However, there was a lack of body diversity as the collection was filled with many gorgeous pieces that would have looked amazing on more showcased bodies.
