Roommate Ready-to-Wear

In college, there’s one person you get to know better than anyone else at your school: your roommate. You get to see all aspects of their life from teeth-brushing to sleep-talking to hearing about their love life. I have lived with my roommate Lindy for over a year now, and one thing I could not help but notice is her affinity for clothes. With all of the constant online shopping and mid-day outfit changes, I wanted to better classify this aspect of her life. And this week, I had the opportunity to do so! So, without further adieu, here are five days of fits from my awesome roommate as well as ratings and commentary by me!

Top: H&M Sweater

Bottoms: Abercrombie & Fitch denim mini skirt

Shoes: pink and white Reeboks

Rating: 8.5/10

Review: I always appreciate a sweater-skirt combo. It is a perfect fall outfit because it is not too hot or too cold. A denim skirt is also prime Monday attire because it feels a little fancy and can take away some of the Monday blues. Speaking of blue, I found the navy of the sweater to be a very classy color that suits Lindy well. Overall, I think this outfit consisted of quality staple pieces from Lindy’s wardrobe, but I think it could have used a different color sock. Based on the big smile on her face in this picture, I can tell this outfit makes her very happy, and therefore it makes me happy too!

Top: Abercrombie & Fitch Sweater

Bottoms: Abercrombie & Fitch pants

Shoes: Anne Klein shoes

Rate: 10/10

Review: On Tuesday, Lindy had to dress for a career fair. We all agreed that sophomore year is far too early to have to be looking for jobs, but it was a fun excuse to dress up! Lindy is an aspiring political scientist and boy did she look like one! She was networking and handing out resumes like it was nobody's business. And the best part was that she looked good while doing it. As they say, “Look good, play good.” That must’ve been Lindy’s mantra on Tuesday. Decked out in her very professional sweater, slacks, and heels, she slayed the career fair. I especially loved how she used the sandwich rule to match her shoes to her sweater. Lindy’s mom appreciated being texted this photo as well. I couldn’t give this outfit anything but a 10 out of 10.

Top: Gap long sleeve

Bottoms: Madewell denim shorts

Shoes: pink and white Reeboks

Rate: 7.5/10

Review: I thought this was a solid outfit for hump day, but it was missing that wow factor we all dream of on a Wednesday morning. Lindy was glowing regardless, and sporting school colors nonetheless. Again, this was another great fall combo of a long-sleeve and shorts. But I would have loved a splash of color or brightness. The top had just arrived at our door (courtesy of the Gap), so she just had to wear it! I thought this was a good outfit for an ordinary day of classes (which this day was), but I still could not in good conscience give this look anything higher than a 7.5 out of 10.

Top: Lucky blouse

Bottoms: Madewell denim shorts

Shoes: Tasman Uggs

Rate: 7.5/10

Review: This outfit served from head to shorts. I guess you could say I was not a fan of the chosen footwear. I thought the Uggs brought the sincerity of the fit down a little bit. Perhaps a pair of sneakers or sandals could have elevated this look more. I did, however, really like Lindy’s floral top in this outfit and its pairing with the light-wash shorts. It was a good color scheme for the end of summer and transition into fall. Unfortunately, the shirt did take some battle wounds over the course of the day. Do not fret, we will fix it and she will be able to hit the town in it again. If you haven’t noticed already, I will point out that these are the same jean shorts from the previous day. Lindy tells me it is good for your jeans to not wash them too often. I appreciate her concern for the fabric’s well-being and our dorm’s water bill. And she justifies the Uggs with the fact that she received a student discount on them. Overall, solid fit, 7.5/10.

Top: Aerie pullover

Bottoms: Pink Lululemon 3.5” track-that shorts

Shoes: On Clouds

Rate: 8/10

Review: This was one of Lindy’s comfier outfits. She often asks me whether or not she should change into comfy clothes, and I am always a big supporter of the comfy. After a long week, it is always good to unwind in a cozy outfit, so I couldn’t dock too many points off of this rating. That being said, I also could not give this look the same high marks as her career fair fit, as that one was truly exceptional. This outfit is campus-friendly and nap-friendly. She likes to “hot-girl walk” around our local lakes and this outfit is perfect for that: the shoes are comfy and the pullover will protect her from a light breeze. She also tells me that these are “the best lulu shorts a girl can find.” She considers them one of her best investments as they will last for years to come. Do what you will with that information, I give this fit an 8 out of 10.

Final Remarks:

I really loved following along with my roommate’s fashion journey this week, and I definitely recommend it to you all if you get the chance. We are busy gals so this was a good little escape for us to check in throughout the week. Lindy represents the classy, sleek, and feminine fashion of a modern 20-year-old on the go. I wish you could all see the rest of her looks throughout the year as well.

Strike Out,
