Your Face is a Work of Art

Makeup is and has always been a form of art and expression. It allows people–all people–to express themselves in whatever way they choose. It is the perfect way to show the world exactly who you are.

Whether you’re a makeup artist or simply enjoy painting your face for fun, the possibilities are endless. You don't need to have the title of “beauty guru” to create unique looks, just a brush and a palette. The best part about makeup is that there are no rules.

It can be thought of as a form of self care, because treating your face and body as a canvas is something that allows you to connect with yourself. Taking time to focus on both your inner and outer self is essential, whatever that may look like for you. It’s important that we take the time to appreciate our natural beauty, and get up close and personal with our God-given canvases.

I am no makeup artist myself, but when I see people on TikTok and Instagram creating bold and beautiful pieces of art on their face and body, I find it inspiring. Despite the endless drama surrounding the beauty community on YouTube, watching beauty tutorials never gets old. For example, James Charles isn't always in people’s good graces, but he does create some pretty amazing looks.

Much like taking a paintbrush to a blank canvas, makeup is a form of art, and the best part is being able to walk around with your masterpiece on display. Besides creative expression, makeup is a beautiful way to show the world who you are and what you believe in, no matter your gender or skin color. I follow a few beauty queens like Manny MUA and Bretman Rock, who take the concept of beauty influencers to a whole new level. There's something so inspiring about freedom of expression and not caring what people will think.

Androgynous makeup is something that has continued to receive more and more representation in the beauty community, and it’s a beautiful thing. It’s not a new concept, but it means that everyone at least has the opportunity to feel comfortable wearing makeup, no matter who they are.

There will always be people who disagree, but if anything–it is more empowering because it gives one the opportunity to stand up for who they are, despite the opinions of others.

Expression through cosmetics is like any other passion or interest–drawing, painting, or playing a sport. It may take some practice, but that just means spending more time with yourself.

Plus, as long as you’re having fun, no one can tell you that you're doing it wrong.

Strike Out,
