Out With the Old and In With the New…Bottega
In just under a year, Bottega Veneta's Daniel Lee has taken the fashion industry by storm. From dominating Britain's Fashion Awards with four wins to a very successful runway show in Milan this February, Lee has made his mark and is telling the world that he is here to stay.
After being appointed to the house as Creative Director back in June of 2018, Lee has transformed Bottega Veneta from a classic and respected, yet low-key Italian brand into an established "it" label. His newest collection, being only his third on the runway, was an incredible success and caught everyone's attention. Lee showcased an array of statement pieces and staple items, but our favorite? The biodegradable boot. The unisex footwear was strutted down the runway in bright pink, lulling brown, and neon green and seemed to be the cherry on top of the perfect look. This chunky design is very different from the typical sleek shoes we see by Bottega, but something about the unexpectedness of it all makes us very eager to see what else is in store for seasons to come.
Many of his latest designs (the quintessential intreccio weave, the pouch bag, the padded everything) have already achieved "must-have" status. They have been flaunted by celebrities like Rihanna, who must have the pouch in over ten different colors, and Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, who has dedicated almost 40 Instagram posts (and counting) to her favorite Bottega bag. There have also been other acts of devotion to the new direction of the brand, such as an Instagram page titled "New Bottega." The digital archive dedicated to the new helm of Bottega has already acquired 225,000 followers and is still growing strong.
Needless to say, Daniel Lee did what everyone else was afraid to do. He redefined cool and adjusted to the new fashion climate very swimmingly. Steering away from anything too hype beast or faddish, Lee gave the people what they wanted—refined Italian luxury that is timeless, yet effortlessly cool. With Daniel Lee at its backbone, Bottega Veneta has set a new standard for designers worldwide and continues to shape the industry in ways previously thought unimaginable.
There’s no telling what’s next but we have a feeling it’s going to be good.
Strike Out,
