No Valentine? No problem.

What started as a made-up holiday from Parks and Rec has transcended into what’s personally one of my favorite holidays, Galentine’s Day. Leslie Knope, AKA the founder of this beautiful holiday, got her best friends together the day before Valentine’s Day for a waffle brunch to celebrate the love they all have for each other. To sum up the importance of this holiday she said the following - "Oh, it's only the best day of the year. Every February 13th, my lady friends and I leave our husbands and our boyfriends at home, and we just come and kick it, breakfast-style. Ladies celebrating ladies. It's like Lilith Fair, minus the angst. Plus, frittatas." Galentine’s Day is a holiday where instead of celebrating the love you share with your sweetheart, you celebrate the love you have with your best girlfriends. I mean after all they’re your actual soulmates, right?

Just like any true holiday, there are countless ways to spend it. When it comes down to it, as long as you’re celebrating and appreciating the unbreakable bond you share with your friends, then you’re celebrating it right. As a seasoned veteran and huge advocate of Galentine’s Day, I’ve accumulated some fun ideas of ways to spend this wonderful holiday with your best girlfriends.

1. Brunch

If you’re like me and look for any excuse to brunch with your girls, this holiday is it. If you want to celebrate Galentine’s Day in true Leslie Knope style, have a waffle brunch!

2. Potluck/Galentine’s Bash

Think “Friendsgiving” but Valentine edition. Invite your friends over for a potluck and tell them each to make (or buy if they can’t cook like me) their favorite dish! If you really want to make this get together perfect, HGTV has some tips.

3. Girl’s Night Out

This holiday is the perfect excuse for a girl’s night out! Make a reservation at your favorite restaurant and afterwards hit the town for a night of music and dancing!

4. Girls Night In

Galentine’s day is also the perfect excuse to stay in with the girls! Pajamas, Nicholas Sparks movies, and some movie snacks…name anything better. Plus, since there’s no guys around you can watch Dear John five times without any judging or complaining.

5. Spa Day

Go online to Groupon and find some sweet spa deals for facials, mani pedis, and massages! You’ll feel refreshed after spending the day being pampered along with all of your best friends.

6. DIY Pinterest crafts

Get crafty and put your creativity to the test. Make a Valentine crafts Pinterest board and take a group trip to Michaels to get some supplies! It is always fun to do a project like that with other people too.

Just because this holiday doesn’t pop up on your calendar app just yet doesn’t mean you shouldn’t celebrate. Also, being in a relationship shouldn’t stop you from celebrating either, it’s the day before Valentine’s Day for a reason so you can still celebrate with your sweetheart! So, grab your girl gang this February 13th and let’s celebrate ladies celebrating ladies!

Strike Out,
