Need a Summer Obsession? Two Words: Mac Saturn

This summer is record-breakingly hot. But Mac Saturn might just be hotter. This six-man rock band from Detroit, Michigan, is coming in ablaze to revive the rock scene.

After watching their opening concert for The Struts in Orlando, Florida, this past weekend, I was certain that rock’n’roll isn’t dead just yet– as long as Mac Saturn can do anything about it. Their ‘70s rock sound mixed with grit and groove provides the perfect ambiance for any setting.

Listening to the band for months through Spotify could not prepare me for the show I witnessed. Their energy spread to every member of the audience.

As frontman Carson Macc entered the stage in a chain link vest and low-waisted jeans, he immediately took control of the crowd.

They started the show with their 2022 single “Diamonds.” Angelo Coppola was on the drums, Mike Moody and Nick Barone played guitar, Jive Moses rocked the bass, and Evan Mercer was on the keys.

The passion they have for their art is expressed through every verse of the song. By the end of “Diamonds,” I felt electrified.

The band carried on their performance with songs from their EP, Until the Money Runs Out, as well as their unreleased songs  “Get On the Phone” and “Mint Julep.”

The versatility of their songs provides you with everything you could want to hear– and more. The incorporation of the maracas and tambourines added a soulful groove to their rock sound.

It was obvious that all the band members played off of each other’s energy. Their personalities came alive on the stage. By the end of the show, you felt like you knew exactly who Mac Saturn was.

From Carson Macc throwing water on the audience to “cool” us down to Mike Moody flipping his luscious locks while playing guitar, we got a taste of the energy that Mac Saturn was trying to curate.

Despite being somewhat new to the music scene after gathering during the COVID pandemic, there is nothing amateur about them.

I’ve listened to rock since childhood– much thanks to my rock-obsessed, ‘60s-born father. However, I thought the closest I could get to hearing my ‘70s faves live was through vinyl records.

Mac Saturn proved me wrong. Seeing them in concert made me feel like I time-traveled. Their performance seemed inspired by all the rockstars of the ‘70s that I love so dearly.

Their sound, style, and persona radiate rockstar status– and I cannot wait to see what the future has in store.

They’re currently still on tour with The Struts as their Remember the Name tour wraps up. The tour has a few more stops from Tennessee to Washington, D.C., until their final destination in Philadelphia.

If you’re a rock fan, you do not want to miss the opportunity of hearing them live… and maybe seeing them shirtless on stage?

See you at the next concert… or when they make my Spotify Wrapped List for 2023.
