Living For Lashes: Lifts, Length, and Looks

Eyelashes have the ability to transform our face more than we realize. The right lashes can make your eyes pop, adding a subtle but effective hint of added beauty. Different lash trends have been growing in popularity over the past few years. With so many lash products on the market, there’s definitely a product that fits everyone’s lifestyle and lash preferences. Here are some of the most popular lash trends and products as seen today.

Lash Extensions: Lash extensions are a procedure that includes glueing synthetic eyelash hairs to each individual lash in order to create a fuller and more dramatic look.

Pros to Lash Extensions: Lash extensions look incredible and can last up to three weeks. Besides the occasional brushing, they are typically low-maintenance and you don’t have to do much with them when they are on. You have the ability to choose between a classic, hybrid, and voluminous style. They look natural and you’ll wake up every day feeling gorgeous and ready to go without having to wear much makeup.

Cons to Lash Extensions: These lashes are typically more expensive than other products. A set can cost anywhere from $80-$100, and usually requires lengthy fill-in appointments every 2-3 weeks. Over time, the lashes fall out and can create gaps that can only be fixed by getting a fill-in. If done incorrectly, your natural lashes can be removed by the glue or have gapping. It is important to clean your lashes regularly and to avoid mascara or clumpy eyeliner.

Lash Lifts: A “perm” for your eyelashes that alters the shape, length, and color of your natural lashes to give them a boosted, more enhanced look.

Pros to Lash Lifts: An easy way to enhance your natural lashes without having to apply fake lashes and worry about damage due to glue. They last longer than lash extensions and are a good way to enhance your natural beauty. You can still wear mascara and don’t have to change much about your daily makeup routine.

Cons to Lash Lifts: Can be a bit expensive, usually falling somewhere between $50-$100. It is important to periodically take breaks from getting lash lifts to not damage your natural lashes.

Lash Serums: Serums to apply to your lashes and lid that grow your natural lashes over time.

Pros to Lash Serums: Since they grow out your natural lashes, you don’t have to worry about losing lashes or getting a fill-in. They have products in a wide variety of price ranges, some as low as $8. This is one of the healthiest options for your lashes, as you don’t have to worry about any glue ripping out your natural lashes from application or removal. You can still use mascara and your favorite eye makeup products with no issue.

Cons to Lash Serums: It can be hard to find a lash serum that works for you. Some of the better products are a bit on the pricey side (yet still significantly cheaper than lash extensions). They also take a few weeks to get results, and they won’t be as long or as full as artificial lashes.

FlutterHabit (and other do-it-yourself lash kits): Segmented eyelash kits you can apply and touch up yourself by glueing synthetic lashes to your natural lashes.

Pros to Do-It-Yourself Lash Kits: You can apply and remove these lashes entirely on your own, and there are a variety of video tutorials with tips and tricks to help you out. They have many different styles and lengths to choose from in order to match your preferences. The lashes stay on for 5-7 days and can be touched up as needed, but don’t typically require much maintenance. You will not lose individual lashes or experience gapping like lash extensions. They add a lot of volume to your lashes while still giving a natural look. They are very affordable, with a box of FlutterHabit lashes (six sets) only costing $30.

Cons to Do-It-Yourself Lash Kits: Application can take a while to get the hang of, but isn’t too challenging. Removal is occasionally a bit more difficult. Some websites have issues with running out of stock often. The glue can occasionally remove natural lashes during the removal process.

Falsies: Temporary synthetic eyelashes, usually come in one strip for each eye, typically worn for a few hours at a time.

Pros to Falsies: Extremely affordable and easy to find in stores, packs of multiple lashes can be purchased for as low as $4-$5. Higher-quality falsies are more expensive, but not unreasonable, especially since they can be reused. They have many different styles and lengths you can purchase and are sold in drug stores, beauty stores, and online.

Cons to Falsies: Application and removal can occasionally be tricky. The lashes don’t always stay super secure and can peel up or come loose. They must be removed and applied every day. Glue can be potentially damaging to natural eyelashes.

Lash Primer: A product similar to mascara that is applied to the natural lashes before mascara in order to boost and lengthen the lashes.

Pros to Lash Primer: Application and removal are incredibly easy, as this product is very similar to mascara. It’s a very easy-to-use and affordable product. It is healthy and does not run very much of a risk on natural lashes.

Cons to Lash Primer: This product has to be applied and removed everyday, and doesn’t boost or enhance lashes nearly as much as some of the other products.

Lashes are a unique way to express yourself and add a little flair to your daily routine. Lashes can make you feel more put together and more glamorous with very little effort. With such a wide variety of products, it is safe to say there is a product to fit everyone’s lifestyle and preferences. After weighing the pros and cons of each product, you should be able to find the right product that works for you.
