Lindsay Lohan Drops New Cover of “Jingle Bell Rock”
Mean Girls, AKA the most legendary movie in 2000’s pop culture history, has left an everlasting mark on Millennials and Gen Zers. It seriously does not get any more iconic, mainly because of how accurately it portrays life as a teenager—from feeling insecure to confusion about dating and all the in-betweens.
2000’s icon, Lindsay Lohan, skyrocketed in popularity after Mean Girls. As her career took off, she quickly became no foreigner to the headlines. However, her personal problems eventually began to surpass her career. Lohan struggled with substance abuse and was arrested for drunk driving when she was 20. Of course, after that, the paparazzi were up her butt. During the summer of 2007, Lohan was taken into custody for having cocaine, driving drunk, and driving with a suspended license. She pleaded guilty and, as a result, served one day in jail, completed an alcohol education program and community service, and was on probation. Only Lindsay Lohan would manage to make being on probation look cool. Lohan was pictured wearing her probation ankle bracelet on many occasions. And she looked great wearing it.
After Lohan’s troubled years, she finally started to make her way back into the entertainment industry. Fans are especially excited to see her as Sierra Belmont in Netflix’s new movie, Falling for Christmas. More specifically, Mean Girls followers are stoked to hear that Lohan did a cover of “Jingle Bell Rock” for the movie! For the first time since Lindsay Lohan’s character, Cady Heron saved the Plastics “Jingle Bell Rock” talent show skit by singing, we will hear her sing the tune once again.
On Nov. 10, Lohan made an appearance on The Tonight Show, Starring Jimmy Fallon. During the interview, Fallon excitedly said, “And you sing in it, by the way!” while discussing the new movie. Fallon reminded the audience that the last time Lohan sang “Jingle Bell Rock” was in Mean Girls. To everyone's surprise, Lohan shared that the whole idea of her singing the song actually started as her making a joke. “I shouldn’t have said it because they went straight to, ‘Oh, let’s recreate the Mean Girls talent show scene.’ I was like, ‘Oh, no, no. You can’t touch Mean Girls.’...So then they were like, ‘Oh can you do the song?’” Lohan basically hinted that there was no way she could have turned down their request.
There you have it. Mean Girls simply will never go out of style. Lohan’s new cover is perfect for the holidays and for old-time sake. It is truly remarkable that the movie has remained relevant and legendary 20 years later.
