Kim's Nipple Bra is About More Than Just Being Hot
Many times, the Kardashians are notorious for dropping totally niche items. Khloe has her “revolutionary” Good American jeans, Kourtney has whatever Poosh is, and Kim has her Skims. However, Kim came out with a life-altering product without even realizing it.
For a group of women who are known for doing absolutely nothing and being rich, it seems that the narrative got old for the Kardashians (or maybe they just got bored with their millions). After all, paying a bunch of people and slapping your name on a product that you randomly felt like selling one day is easy for someone with all types of connections at their fingertips. But sometimes, they can’t help themselves and break the internet. Hence, the nipple bra.
The product itself is self-explanatory; it’s a regular functioning bra with faux nipples that, under a t-shirt, makes you look like you’re cold. The product is already iconic. However, Kimberly (and mostly the Skims product design team) may not have understood the complexities of this product and how it can make a positive difference in women's lives today.
A group of women that would benefit from this product the most would be survivors of a single or double mastectomy. For context, this is performed on people with breast cancer, and the operation involves removing all breast tissue from a breast. It’s also done as a preventative operation for those who have a high risk of getting the illness. Usually, women who have had a mastectomy would later get a breast augmentation, but many women still have a fear of going under the knife again. For many, this bra would give women the ability to feel feminine again for significantly less than plastic surgery.
Another group of women that would benefit from Skim’s nipple bra would be trans-women. With ongoing politics making gender-affirming care less and less available in “red” states, this bra couldn’t have come at a better time. Sure, it doesn’t solve the issue of truly giving trans-women breasts to make them appear more feminine, but the bra is the most affordable option for them. It could be a good undergarment for trans-women to wear until they can get their augmentation or a good alternative for those who prefer not to go under the knife on their chest. Either way, ALL women can feel sexy with the nipple bra.
Finding support can be very difficult, especially if you have not one, but two big problems (this is a metaphor for big boobs). A blessing and a curse, big boobs are one of those things no one hates. But for those who must carry said blessing and curse, it’s almost unfair that women with smaller chests get to run around braless. Like it or not, nipples are a key part of femininity. And for the big boob community, it can be hard to go braless and still feel comfortable with themselves in public. Therefore, the nipple bra helps women who struggle with the lack of confidence of going braless. Now, large-chested women can be supported while still feeling sexy. Skims lets them go braless without actually being braless.
Could Kimberly have released this product knowing the impact it would have not only in the fashion world but helping women regain their confidence and feel like their most feminine selves? We don’t know, but if she did, she’s a genius.
