Is Golf the Ultimate Hot Girl Sport?
During the week of the Masters tournament, I saw close to 20 Masters merch haul TikToks on my For You page. Is this just my newest hyperfixation? Or is the age-old game of golf… trendy?
Upon a little bit of research combined with some pondering, I’ve concluded that yes, the popularity of golf is on the rise. Not only is the game more accessible for new players than ever before, but the PGA tour is easier and more interesting to follow. I’m here to tell you to hop on the bandwagon.
I know what you’re thinking; but not to fear, the game of golf has already departed from the antiquated, pretentious sport you’re imagining.
Let me paint a picture of what the sport of golf used to be. The demographic was mostly white well-off men, and it was hard to play without a country club membership. Even my grandpa used to say that golf stands for “Gentlemen Only, Ladies Forbidden.” My own dad discouraged me from making a tee time on Saturday because I wasn’t adept at the etiquette yet (which might be fair). Maybe the traditional atmosphere of golf continues to hold true for the older generation, but if you’re reading this article titled “Is Golf the Ultimate Hot Girl Sport?”, I think it’s safe to assume that you too are part of the new generation of golfers.
Whether you want to play golf or just follow it, the industry has evolved to allow anyone to easily do either. Wanna play? Hell yeah. Hit the driving range or even go to TopGolf and hit some balls with some friends and a drink. Eventually, work your way up to a Par 3 course and before you know it, you’ll be playing on a Saturday morning at a country club.
If you’d rather follow professional golfers, there is no better time to get into it. The PGA tour website streams every weekend, and with the rival Saudi Arabian-backed LIV tour on the rise, there’s some drama to follow too. If you’re anything like me, the word drama just sparked your interest! :)
Golf is accessible now, no matter how you want to get involved. But the question remains, why should you want to? Well, to start, a round of golf is literally a hot girl walk: a term we all know and love. Golf Monthly reports that after walking a standard 18 holes, “a round of golf will burn probably somewhere in the order of 1,400 or 1,500 calories.” Hello? That’s going to be a yes from me. Not to mention, make a tee time during prime UV index hours, 12-2 (duh), and you’re also getting a killer tan out of it. Plus, the outfits are adorable—we all love a good tennis skirt. Keep a fun little drink in the cart with you and you’ve got yourself a whole afternoon. Golf is also a deeply successful talking point to impress your friends’ dads and business colleagues alike. Networking! Yay!
Hopefully by now I’ve convinced you that not only can you get into golf, but you should. Don’t just follow the trend— get ahead of it while you can.
Strike Out,
Alex Keezer
