In a Movie Mood? Here Are Four Must-Watch Movie Franchises to Check Out

Are you bored? Are you sick at home with nothing to do? Or do you just feel like watching cinematic masterpiece after cinematic masterpiece? If you answered yes to any of those questions, I have the solution: binge-watch a film series. You won’t have to sever connections with beloved characters, nor will you worry about finding another movie to watch afterward, as both will be waiting for you with the next installment. Without further ado, here are four must-watch film series so you can get started on your binge.

Scream is the franchise to watch if you want to watch a great slasher movie that merges the worlds of humor and horror. I promise you, if you watch the first Scream, you will not be able to stop yourself from watching the next eight. Actors such as Courteney Cox, Drew Barrymore, Jenna Ortega, and many more contribute to the franchise's success, and some of these female leads are debatably the best final girls in all of horror cinema. The neat thing about Scream is that you, much like the characters in the film, have no idea who the killer is. As a result, you get to play detective from the comfort of your couch, coming up with elaborate scenarios as to why you think a character is the killer. Sometimes it may be obvious, and sometimes it may be impossible to guess. Either way, doing so feeds into the fun of the movie.

Next up, we have the Spider-Man movies—and no, not the ones about Peter Parker. As much as I love to watch Tobey Maguire, Andrew Garfield, and Tom Holland, it’s time to look beyond Peter Parker and into the Spider-Verse. Yes, I know only two of these movies have been released, but a third is on the way! Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse (2018) and Spiderman: Across the Spider-Verse (2023) are simply spectacular. The comic book-style animation allows for explosions of color in moments of tension, resulting in what can only be considered artwork. Moreover, the soundtrack for both films can easily be considered some of the best movie soundtracks of all time. Songs such as Post Malone’s “Sunflower” and Coi Leray’s “Self Love” were created for these films. Hearing songs like these play during the movie makes them even more enjoyable. The third movie is expected to be released sometime next year, so if you start watching now, you’ll know where to find yourself on its release date.

What can I say about Star Wars that hasn’t been said before? If you are a science fiction fan and haven’t seen Star Wars, I’m not sure you can call yourself a science fiction fan. Suppose you have seen these movies but are willing to rewatch them. In that case, I suggest watching them chronologically since the sequences in which specific information comes to light and events take place drastically change the movies. Whether you watch the movies chronologically or by the order of their creation, you still get to see certain characters grow up and develop on screen, which is a bittersweet thing, but it only connects you with the franchise further. The newer, Disney-produced Star Wars films have gotten their fair share of backlash, but they aren’t bad. They simply don’t compare to the George Lucas production that original fans grew accustomed to, but are still worth watching!

If you want to watch some of the funniest movies you’ll ever see, you must watch American Pie. This film franchise will always have a place in my heart. I remember being thirteen years old, definitely too young to watch these movies, at my buddy’s house, and deciding to watch every American Pie in one weekend. I don’t think I’ve ever had more fun sitting on a sofa for nine hours. I guarantee you will cry from laughter at least once while watching every movie, which says a lot. Not many comedies have that effect on people, but then again, not many comedies are as raunchy as American Pie. Take my word for it and give American Pie a chance. I promise you won’t regret it.

Strike Out,
