I’m Bored of My Closet

"I have like nothing to wear,” Cher snapped as she discarded another blouse onto the mountain of clothes on her bedroom floor.
If you’re a Clueless fan, you definitely remember this scene of Cher trying to find an outfit among her seemingly never-ending selection of clothing. Lately, this is how I have felt, except without Cher’s iconic wardrobe. I have no space for clothes that I have in my room, and yet, I can’t find any new outfits lately.
So let’s talk through my problems.
My first problem—I have clothes but not pieces of outfits. I am sure that made no sense, so let me explain. I have great unique tops and bottoms I love to wear out, but I don’t have good basics that I can layer and wear with anything. This leads right into my second problem—I hate spending money on basics. When I shop, I want to buy the cutest unique pieces, but I don’t necessarily think about functionality and how much use I can get out of the item with other items from my closet. I also do this thing when I shop where I buy what I want rather than what I need. As a typical shopaholic, I shop just to shop. This is where my large wardrobe comes from—I keep buying more and more pieces I find from various boutiques and online retailers, without a practical plan to create outfits from these statement pieces.

Have I tried to fix this? Yes, I tell myself to stop doing this and set boundaries to curb my shopaholic affliction. And yet, has it worked? Nope.
I really do mean it when I say I have tried. The last time I bought something online was to replace a shirt that had gotten ruined in the wash. One shirt. But when I started looking for the exact shirt I bought, I started finding new things I wanted to buy. Then I went from one shirt in my cart to three tops, four bottoms, and a dress I know I will never wear. So, the cycle continues.
I have thought of new solutions to my problem like making an exact list of basics or bottoms I need and only buying from that list. The problem? I don’t know where to start and I don’t trust myself to follow that list.
Right now, I am wishing that I had Cher’s techy closet app to help me put outfits together.

I have seen apps on your phone that allow you to take pictures of all the pieces you own and then put outfits together, but I am not sure I have the time or the patience to go through my whole closet. We have not reached Cher’s level yet.
I honestly think there aren’t many options left, except one—I need to completely reinvent myself with a whole new wardrobe and style. It is the only way.
Now the tough question is, what style do I pick?
