I Swear by My Drugstore Hair Care Products

First things first, this is a student-run magazine.

First things first, this is a student-run magazine.

Second, that means I know some of my readers, like myself, may be balling on a budget.

Thirdly, can I say thirdly? I am here to help you achieve your dream hair whilst balling on said budget, as these products can all be found at Target, Wal-Mart, or Ulta.

Your best hair is just waiting for you to make it come alive. While I may like to splurge on some things in life, haircare is something I refuse to spend sufficient money on, especially when the glowing isles of Target have so many options. Yes, salons offer beautiful products that smell wonderful and give you beautiful hair, but you can also achieve this hair for a fraction of the price.

Disclaimer: I am not a professional, but I get compliments on the health of my hair, and I do think it is important to spread the knowledge about drugstore products that actually work. I have thick Latina hair, and these products do just the trick. Every product linked below is under $10.

I have used the conditioner that costs thirty dollars for one singular bottle that just isn't quite big enough, and I have also used the shampoo and conditioner that comes in a bundle pack for six dollars. Spoiler alert: my hair is better than ever with my six dollar bundled hair care. BUT, and read it again, BUT I am a firm believer that hair care goes beyond the shower.

Post-shower hair oil is a gift to us from the universe. It exists for a reason.

(I will take a brief moment to apologize for my hair enthusiasm.)

Seal and protect your precious strands! For the love of all things good, use heat protectant when you style your hair. Heat protectant is not one of those friendly suggestions, but instead it is a necessary step. It is a preventative measure. When you use heat protectant, you are saving yourself from the exhausting efforts of trying to treat split ends. We have all been there, whether we want to admit it or not.

After you have styled, I don’t care how clean your hair is, throw some texturizing dry shampoo in there and give it a little tousle.

Other Products to Love:

  • Hask Monoi Coconut Oil Conditioner (Sulfate & Paraben Free!)

  • Garnier Fructis Sleek & Shine Hairspray (Smells good & flexible hold!)

  • Batiste Dry Shampoo (I am a fan of the classic)

  • L’Oreal Elvive Extraordinary Clay Rebalancing Shampoo

I hope this helps!
