How to Stay Friends After the Girls Trip
You have small talk exchanges around the luggage carousel, avoiding eye contact with your best friend. You're monitoring your phone for that Uber notification so you can escape the tension that's been building since day 3's argument. Yeah, you could have avoided this and salvaged your friendship if only you had covered these topics before:
Trip Expectations
Preventing your relationship from irreparable damage can all be avoided if you talk to each other about your trip expectations. ‘Cheers’ing at half-off happy hour is completely different when you're in Cabo. While you may want a relaxing trip where you guys are sipping margaritas by a pool, your travel buddy might want to go ATVing through the sandy beaches. Have a chat with your bestie to ensure you're on the same page when it comes to your trip itinerary.
Budget
Conversations surrounding money are uncomfortable for everyone, but it has to be done in order to have an amazing trip. This leads to a more in-depth conversation about the expectations because now you have to figure out who can afford what. Being in the moment is everything until the bill comes, and you have that one friend who's pinching pennies and saying, "well, I didn't have this, so I'm not paying for it." We all know and love her, but this is why she probably should have stayed home. Kidding, but you definitely should have talked about money. Be understanding as to what your friends can spend, and if it's in your budget, you can pay for them if you want to experience it that badly.
Social Media
Showing off for the gram and filming for your end-of-trip TikTok compilation is totally fine, but if you want to be off-grid, let them know. Had I known about the expectations surrounding social media, I would have never taken a trip to Hawaii. While I wanted to spend time hiking beautiful trails in Kauai, my (ex) friends would dress impractically (I'm talking dresses and sandals) for one of the most dangerous hikes in the world. We were meant to be there for two weeks, but by day 8 of them just driving around taking aesthetic pictures, I booked a flight home. Not everything has to be a backdrop for your insta, but if it is and you're not okay with it, bail.
The only worry you should have when returning home is how you can delete that drunk video of you kissing that guy with an eye patch and your watch tan line. The state of your friendship shouldn't be one of them.
