How to Dress for Fall in Florida

It’s that time of the year again. Fuzzy sweaters, cozy blankets, hot chocolate, pumpkin spice lattes, crisp cold air… except you live in Florida and it’s 95 degrees outside. Not to worry—here are some heat-approved outfits to give you the fall aesthetic and feels you’ve been craving.

Class Outfits

If you want to dress up a little without feeling overdone, here are a couple of outfit inspirations for you. Pair this Ada top from Brandy Melville with this pleated skort from Zara. Add a pair of tights (these Chanel dupes are $20 on Poshmark) and throw on your Dr. Martens or any other neutral boots you have. Last but not least, you’ll need a belt to pull together this perfect Rory Gilmore look.

If you’re trying to achieve the effortlessly casual, yet comfy, classroom looks this fall, then stay tuned. Stick to a warm or neutral palette. The key to this look is to ensure you’re not violating the “two too tight” rule: one item can be tighter as long as the other item remains a little baggier. For example: you can wear a tight, cropped tank top with baggy sweatpants or vice versa: you can don a sweatshirt with leggings or short shorts. The “clean girl” aesthetic of this look is more achievable when the colors match. This matching set from Brandy Melville is great for a cozy day on campus. Throw on some Air Force 1s and an oversized zip-up sweatshirt if it gets chilly.

Hot Girl Walk (literally)

You can never go wrong with a neutral set, sneakers, gold hoops, and a slick back bun. A hot girl walk when it's actually hot outside requires this airbrush streamlined set from Alo, a pair of eggnog-colored HOKA Clifton 9 sneakers, and these $15 14k gold plated hoops from Amazon.

Out on the Town

For a fall night out, I suggest these 90s-inspired vegan leather pants from Abercrombie and Fitch and this satin lace-trim halter top from Urban Outfitters. I love pairing earth tones together to create a fall look.

Cargo pants are the perfect going-out staple. I recommend the ultra high-rise baggy cargo pants from Hollister. This classic night outfit isn’t complete without the lace and satin tie-front cami from Abercrombie and Fitch.

I won’t bother recommending shoes if you’re clubbing in Tallahassee. If anything, grab a pair of your dirtiest shoes that you don’t mind throwing out. If it's a bit chilly, feel free to add a leather jacket like this faux leather blazer from Urban Outfitters.

Working Girl

Fall office wear can be tricky. Dressing conservatively in Florida heat is already difficult to manage. This t-shirt from Banana Republic is thin enough to keep you from sweating, while still exuding comfort and professionalism. Add these Sunday Best pants from Aritzia and a pair of Mary Janes and you’re ready to go.

Date Night

Dinner and a movie? Yes, please. Here’s a perfect first date outfit to have you feeling cozy and cute all night long. I usually opt for baggier jeans during the fall and winter seasons. These blue wide-leg jeans from PacSun are perfect to pair with this Free People corset cami and Chapmin Espadrille Sneakers.

Accessories

Last minute touches? Anklewarmers, ruffled socks, neutral bags, and headbands are the perfect accessories to throw on to complete any fall-inspired look.

It doesn’t have to be cold outside to wear warm tones. Light layering, funky pants, matching sets, and neutral accessories can turn any look from Tallahassee local to New York streetwear. Happy shopping!
