How I Leveled Up My Spring Wardrobe For Less Than $20

Welcome to a lazy girl’s take on a low-budget thrift challenge! If you’re a Nashville local or a fellow fashion-blog follower, you’re likely familiar with this concept already. I was inspired by Nashville blogger Chloe Wen’s $25 Thrift Challenge series, who’s accumulated a treasure trove of thrifted goodies over the years. Given my lack of funds, I felt the urge to go to my local thrift shop in an attempt to find some new staples. I gave myself a $20 budget and only one hour to search—my schedule’s pretty chaotic thanks to my impending finals--but I managed to snag four solid pieces for only $16.48! I went home and pulled together some very simple fits, but the beauty of thrifting is that anything is possible; it all depends on your vision! With more time, energy, and a little bit of digging, you’ll definitely find threads that you can dress up or down. Keeping that in mind, let me give you a rundown on the pieces I found, why I like them, and why I believe thrifting is the best way to fulfill a quick wardrobe revamp.

I wasn’t planning on buying anything too warm, but Nashville weather is unpredictable, and decided to mix some freezing temps in with the sunshine leading up to Easter weekend. So luckily I found a super soft J.Crew sweater for $4.99. It’s paired here with a classic marled skirt from Topshop, but I love how versatile it could be! Most importantly: it’s now one of the comifest things I own. Definitely my new go to on chillier days.

Here’s two simple go-to pieces in one fit: a perfectly loose grey tee from the Loft for $2.50 and a pair of silky skinnies from Articles of Society for $8.99. Listen, I won’t get into the ongoing debate between Gen Z and Millenials about skinny jeans right now. The fact is that when you find a pair of jeans in your size and in your exact favorite color, you buy them. Fortunately, golden hour was upon us during this shoot, so you can fully assess this glorious dark green.

Finally, following the favorite color trend, I found an unbranded tie-dye shirt for $1.50! Honestly, it’s the more random finds like this one that make thrifting absolutely worth it. Yes it’s simple, but once I put it on, I could tell that this shirt was going to be one of my most worn pieces this spring/summer. Paired here with my Levi’s overalls, I couldn’t imagine a fit that felt more on brand for me—or truthfully, more perfect to tie-dye some easter eggs in tomorrow.

It feels good to take a break from fast fashion, and I encourage you to buy some new used threads that motivate you to utilize what you already have in your closet. Not only is it sustainable, but every time I go thrifting, I find myself inspired by something fun and new. Thrifting is an adventure y’all— sometimes you get lucky and find the fit of your dreams, other days you work with the selection you’ve got. But so long as you’re committed to your thrifting efforts, I guarantee that shopping second hand will be completely gratifying in the end!

Strike Out,
