Botox for Babies???

I cannot be the only one who has dozens of videos on their TikTok FYP showing young influencers getting Botox. At first, I was confused why so many women in their early twenties were already having this done. Previously, I had only ever heard of women over forty getting Botox to smooth fine lines and wrinkles.

After a good amount of confusion, I decided to take to the internet to find out why doctors are now targeting younger generations for this procedure. Through my research, I found that this new wave of Botox is called “Baby Botox.” Yes, that does sound quite alarming, but no—babies are in no way involved.

Baby Botox is a new form of Botox used to smooth out fine lines while still allowing for facial movement. Its goal is to give a natural, smoother complexion to one’s face. It is referred to as Baby Botox due to the small amount of injection actually used in the treatment. The muscle is not completely relaxed during this procedure; therefore, the face still has flexibility. Overall, it is most highly recommended to prevent future wrinkle formation. Because of this, it is usually suggested to younger patients. However, it does not typically work for individuals that already have deeper lines.

Baby Botox can be used to tighten the chin area, lift the neck, and even prevent armpit sweat. Recently, doctors have been researching its ability to mediate the grinding of teeth. When injected into the muscles that join your jaw and skull, it has the potential to relax and prevent clenching. Doctors report that using Baby Botox in this way may simultaneously slim the face and counteract jaw pain.

While this form of Botox may sound tempting, there are definitely some precautions to take. For instance, there is a possibility that the injection area may bruise, or the results could appear asymmetrical. It does present fewer risks than traditional Botox because fewer units are used, although this does not mean there is a significant difference in pricing. Botox is usually priced either by unit or area, depending on the doctor. Dontage Anti-Aging Specialists report that Baby Botox typically averages about $300 per treatment. Baby Botox lasts around three months, but it differs for every patient. This time frame is a little bit shorter than traditional Botox, which lasts about five months.

Doctors recommend that younger patients start with Baby Botox because it heals quicker and is less of a commitment to maintain. Traditional Botox completely freezes the targeted muscles and is not needed as frequently for younger individuals with fewer lines and wrinkles. Doctors believe this sudden Baby Botox craze results from society’s new desire to achieve a “natural look.” Baby Botox is recommended because it is not completely obvious that many patients have had something done. Instead, their skin just appears smoother.

I must provide a disclaimer that there are risks in place and this “natural look” is not always achievable. Depending on the patient and the doctor, results may vary, but this look can be achieved in many instances because of the small amount of Botox used during the procedure.

After doing a little more research, I’m starting to understand the hype. However, it makes you question how much money you are willing to spend to achieve smooth skin. The procedure may be in our favorite influencers’ budget, but it is not attainable for many college students. We will complete our skincare regimens (and include sunscreen) as usual in hopes of achieving this glowy, wrinkle-free skin ourselves.
