Fashion is the most powerful art there is, for it allows you to express yourself through a specific vision. Alessandro Trincone, an Italian fashion designer, used his inspiration for Annodami, a gender fluid collection, to express that the art of fashion has no boundaries. He caught the fashion world’s eye when his collection, “Annodami”, won the 2016 “Vfiles Runway 7” contest in New York. He further reached fashion stardom when the Atlanta rapper Young Thug who used his collection in his cover of his album “Jeffery.” This collection was soon followed by AVVOLGIMI which had the same inspiration as his previous on this year’s New York Runway.  When asked about it, Trincone says, “This collection reflects an inner process that was sparked by self-discovery, leading to a strong will to express oneself.

In his fall 2019 collection, he showed the world of how he could combine features of the woman’s collection in the men’s collection and a masculine look into the woman’s collection in this New York City’s Fashion week. Trincone incorporated glitter, sequins, and hats on the runway last week to create a lavish way of showing off his artistic neutral collection. By using these shimmers and metallic silvers from head to toe, it brings attention to our eye creating a refreshing and glamourous look. The beauty of brilliant sparkles and hues of lavender/pink and fresh white grabs our attention by bringing what was once thought as feminine colors, fabrics, styles and accessories are now being used for men and thusly, makes a bold statement on the runways. He used materials like silk, chiffon and tulleon he usually only incorporates in woman’s clothing to encompass an exceptional and skillful attribute in the men’s collection now.

By forming this suave look, he is trying to embody a new meaning of masculinity from society’s notion of it. He conveys a message to the fashion industry that he has the courage and strength to express himself through his artistic capabilities. His collection is an example of how society is becoming more gender fluid not only just through fashion. People are becoming more comfortable with challenging conventional gender stereotypes by discovering their gender identity.

With a clear idea of how to define yourself you have the ability to draw the lines of how others perceive you. It is important to be proud of the person you are becoming, and to realize if you draw the lines you become your own muse, your own painting, your own work of art, no one can copyright because you own it. Trincone understood the importance in loving yourself and approaching things with the courage of putting a piece of your self- expression in your work.  He does this by infusing a neutral tone for men and women to wear, stunting in hues of lavender/pink, metallic, glitter, and sequins to create a collection for both genders. Trincone goes on to say that, “From a technical point of view, these concepts are mainly translated through the very fanciful materials that I choose – like sequins, glitter and of course my beloved tulle, my huge volumes and hats.” He created an inner meaning to the pieces where they weren’t just fabrics, but a finishing touch of artistic ability.
