For the Girls Who Hate Makeup

Branding makeup for the girls who hate it is a convoluted and glorified process made to seem entertaining. Makeup advertisements are not appealing. When we see a new beauty product plastered on social media, we probably won’t purchase it. The word Sephora means very little—in fact, it actually starts to induce anxiety. If you're one of those girls who just doesn't get the appeal of putting on a full face of makeup, then this article is for you.

Let's be real, the makeup and skincare industry is a billion-dollar behemoth that thrives on making women feel inadequate. They tell us that we need their products to be beautiful, to be confident, and to be successful. The makeup industry, with the exception of some wholesome brands, couldn't care less about you. If we want to enhance our natural features, we can do so without spending hundreds of dollars on products that we'll use once and then forget about. I am sometimes appalled by the number of makeup products my friends own. Over 50 blushes and 100 shades of foundations later, they still only use the same couple of products. So, if you haven’t gotten into makeup yet, or if you just can’t seem to limit yourself to a basic regime, here are some tips to help you navigate the murky waters of the beauty industry.

It's important to remember that makeup is a choice, not a requirement. You don't have to wear it if you don't want to, and no one has the right to make you feel bad for not wearing it. We live in a society that places a lot of value on appearance, and this is especially relevant on a college campus where going out is a big part of our lives. The daunting process of getting ready shouldn't stop you from spending the night at your local bar. You don't have to conform to that standard if you don't want to. Wear what makes you feel comfortable and confident, whether that's a full face of makeup or just some mascara and lip balm. If you do decide to wear makeup, you can keep it simple. You don't need to go all out with filled-in brows and contouring. Stick to the basics: a little bit of concealer to cover up any blemishes or dark circles, some mascara to make your eyes pop, and maybe a bit of blush or lip balm to add some color to your face. You don't need to spend hours in front of the mirror to look good.

Another thing to keep in mind is that expensive products aren’t always better. There are plenty of affordable makeup brands out there that work just as well as their high-end counterparts. Don't fall for the marketing hype and think that you need to spend a ton of money to get quality makeup. Do your research, read reviews, and don't be afraid to try out some drugstore brands. And finally, don't let anyone make you feel bad for not wearing makeup. It's your face, and you get to decide how you want to present yourself to the world. If someone tells you that you look tired or sick without makeup, just remember that their opinion doesn't matter. You are beautiful just the way you are, and anyone who can't see that isn't worth your time.
