Fashion’s Biggest, Boldest Color: Neon Green

For those who didn’t get to watch Copenhagen Fashion Week Fall 2022, let me fill you in on the biggest, boldest, hottest color that’s about to dominate the fashion market come September. It’s all about neon green baby, and I could not be more excited. Over the past few days of fashion week, designers have displayed neon green in their collections, offering versions that would work equivalently well at a Friday night out and Sunday morning brunch. Take cult Danish brand Ganni for example, showcased prairie-ready dresses and monochrome suits in muted palettes, worn over lime sweaters.

Saks Potts, a Copenhagen-based womenswear brand, left the audience awe-inspired with its club-ready style, opening with two neon green outfits. The first was a green maxi sheer dress with a halter neckline, and the second was a sheer top paired with black leather pants. Designed by Barbra Potts and Catherine Saks, the brand also introduced the theme of subtleness throughout their pieces. For instance, they delicately paired a green flower belt with a beige-and-brown outfit. Neon green adds a sense of unreserved and affable taste to fashion, and it is one I’m personally absolutely in love with.

Interestingly, the rise of the neon green takeover is not as dramatically abrupt as one would think. Beginning with the rise of retro-futurism, a movement that derives inspiration from the 1960s infatuation with tech and space, neon colors have been steadily making their way onto the runways for the past few seasons. For example, in the spring of 2022, New York-based LaPointe displayed neon green blazers and leather harnesses inside a club-like environment in Manhattan’s SoHo neighborhood. For those who don’t know, Sally Lapointe is a renowned fashion designer in New York City, so by eccentrically using neon green, she’s truly the one to set the tone that neon green is in

I believe in designing your life how you want, and not feeling like you have to follow by the rules"

- Creative director and designer Sally LaPointe

I put this quote here because it is no question that neon green is an absolute stand-out color, but are we ready as a society to wear such bold colors? As you all know (I apologize for the reiteration), I love neon green. However, do I have the courage to wear it out in public? Honestly, in Tallahassee, probably not. However, if someone got me a ticket to New York City, you could find me radiating all things neon. To me, neon green challenges an array of societal rules that our world has put in place, and for that, it is a color of power and strength. To wear neon green gives off a compelling aura that I simply cannot get enough of.

Neon green was such a prominent aspect of Copenhagen Fashion Week 2022 for a reason.

Neon green equates to anything from bold to chutzpah to flamboyant. Pretty much anything along those lines.

Neon, in general, is the spark we need in society to truly express ourselves and be bold! No color is off-limits, and we are entirely free to use these striking colors to make us stand out in the world. Thank you to Copenhagen Fashion week for opening the doors of inspiration.

PS, if I see you wearing neon green in Tallahassee, go off. You are one bad a**, and you look hot

Strike Out,
