Fashionable Face Masks + Where to Buy Them
“Phone, keys, wallet, mask.” Your checklist before leaving the house now probably includes an item you never would’ve expected to own in 2019. Whether you’re going to a restaurant, heading to the grocery store, or meeting up with a friend for a coffee, masks are essential in stopping the transmission of the coronavirus - which is probably why they’re mandatory almost everywhere.
For many people, though, their senses of style have taken a critical hit since the start of the pandemic. We’re leaving the house less, which has led to our sweatpants taking over and made us feel like we should only ever get dressed from the waist up. What’s more, when we finally do leave the house, a perfectly styled outfit can get overshadowed by a blue, utilitarian face mask.
Since face masks are so important, however, the best solution to this plight is not to ditch them altogether, but to find a way to incorporate them into your outfit. We’ve found a few face masks that are super cute and versatile, so there’s sure to be one to fit every aesthetic. Our favorites are listed below, but please note: none of these are substitutes for medical-grade personal protective equipment.
This trio of face masks, made by Lele Sadoughi, comes with adjustable ear straps to provide ultimate comfort! These masks are reusable and hand-embellished. All of them come with a contour-fit, two-layer design, a soft t-shirt lining, and a pocket to add an air filter.
Lele Sadoughi has also pledged to aid in the fight against COVID-19. They’ve donated thousands of headbands with button hooks for front line workers to wear with masks, taking some of the strain off of their ears and making those long shifts a little bit easier. A compassionate company with cute products - what a score!
These reusable face masks are great for anyone aiming for a more subdued look. With an earthy color palette of rust tones, off whites, and forest greens, these adjustable face masks suit any outfit. The two layers of breathable fabric and adjustable nose pieces make them easy to wear for extended periods of time without hassle.
You can always count on Old Navy to provide budget-friendly, fashionable basics, and they’ve done exactly that with their packs of five and ten face masks for only $12.50 and $25, respectively. With endless options to choose from, it’s easy to find the perfect collection of masks to fit your personal aesthetic. The masks have three protective layers, adjustable ear loops, and are 100% cotton.
Everlane, a company that’s gained notoriety for their “choose what you pay” campaign, has created a five-pack of face masks that are not only cute but also support a great cause. These masks are part of their 100% Human initiative, which was launched following the divisiveness of the 2016 election to advocate for human rights. For every 100% Human product sold, Everlane donates 10% to the ACLU. Everlane is also transparent with its entire production process - you can see pictures inside of their factories by following the links on the product pages.
For those wanting to make a statement, Free People has some amazing embroidered face masks. The masks are made with vintage fabric, so they may vary in pattern and color. These are also made by hand by one of Free People’s artisan partners through their Care FP initiative in an effort to reduce the company’s footprint and promote a better society.
This is by no means a conclusive list of every fashionable face mask on the market, but hopefully, it helps you to get started in your search! As always, remember to stay safe, wear a mask, and tell your friends and family to do the same.
