Eating Good, Feeling Good: Things to Do This Fall
As this summer’s blazing heat makes its way out of North Florida, we are finally in the season to see Tallahassee in its fall foliage. With the changing of the seasons, it’s time to embrace the warm and blissful atmosphere with our friends and our loved ones. For some, colder temperatures may also tag along with feelings of stress and uncertainty, especially under the overwhelming academic and social pressure at Florida State. We must not forget that fall is also the time to slow things down and seek wellness-- whether it’s through bonding with the people we love, or within ourselves. Below are some wonderful ideas to get the most out of the last bits of warmth, alone or with friends!
Dinner Parties/ Wine Nights
Show off your culinary skills by hosting a dinner party or snuggling up in blankets and enjoying some Pinot Noir of your choice with your friends or family! If red wine is not your thing, you can always indulge with Chardonnay or some Rosé to a good movie or a drinking game. Dinner parties and wine nights are an excellent way to bond with the people you care about in a home setting while saving the money you would’ve otherwise splurged on going out. Start out by inviting a couple friends or family members to try out some of your best dishes or snacks!
Pumpkin Patch/ Farmer’s Market
There is nothing better than stepping out of your responsibilities for a day to see autumn’s finest gifts-- pumpkins! Discover your local pumpkin farm or a pumpkin patch and capture your best moments (and angles), appreciating the wonders of mother nature. Be on the lookout for the freshest pumpkins on the lawn you could use for your next baking project or house decoration! Or if the idea of “pumpkin spice and everything nice” doesn’t sound appealing, you can always pay a visit to your local farmer’s market, which, unlike any other time of the year, will remain abundant in Tallahassee’s freshest produce until the colder days.
Baking
If you’re lucky enough to spot a solid, quality pumpkin, then don’t waste a second, and head to your kitchen! Even if pumpkin won’t serve a role, there are endless fall recipes you could impress your friends with, while experimenting with your skills. It’s time to feature fall’s finest produce through deserts of all kinds: cookies, apple tarts, cakes, galettes, muffins, and so much more; don’t let your baking stay asleep this fall!
Cider Tasting
Unlike any other alcoholic beverage, a cider’s fragrant smell and delicate taste top any other seasonal drink. If you’re over 21, find your local tasting room to learn how the drink is made and experience the crème de la crème of apples during their harvest season. There is no better way to experience all of the wide-ranging sorts of cider than at a scenic cider tasting room.
Hiking/ Jogging
With summer 2022 being less than 200 days away, we must not get on the loose from our workouts this fall! With plummeting temperatures, outdoor workouts are no longer a hell of a sweat, but a great way to feel the fall ambiance while meeting your daily fitness goals. If you’re not accustomed to hikes in the park or jogs around campus, a “hot girl walk” around town while discovering Tallahassee’s hidden gems will do just as much.
Discovering new bakeries and coffee shops
A coffee connoisseur like myself is always in search of new coffee spots in town that will allow me to get my daily fix of caffeine in the most refined way available. Whether you’re looking to enjoy french pastries or the classic pumpkin spice latte, there’s no better place to catch up with your friends or focus on your homework than to the smell of fresh espresso at a coffee or a bakery shop.
