Dude, where’s your pants?
With Spring right around the corner, the latest trend in street wear to the runway this season is on the cusp of public nudity- or at least the illusion of it.
From Bella Hadid eating pizza in the street in her briefs and Uggs to Julia Fox grocery shopping in her underwear, the “no pants” look has the internet wondering how people get out of the house looking like this.
What is the allure to this look? Byrdie dates the trend back to dancer and ballerina core, as well as old Hollywood/Playboy bunny eras. Taking Lingerie out of the bedroom and onto the streets is not a new trend. Celebrities and influencers love recycling old styles and looks from the past, while adding a new flare to it. Although many like to think of themselves as trend setters, very few have been able to create a look that has not already been done before.
Personally, I think this is a positive move in fashion. By giving less up to the imagination (or however the saying goes) women are able to take control of their sexuality and self-expression. There is something to admire about the power and confidence that showing off your body does for a woman. In my book, someone who is able to wear whatever they want without the fear of criticism or rejection is a leader in fashion. By being unconventional and slightly crude, your fashion choices stand out more in a crowd. Whether it be more skin showing than others or wearing a dress made out of meat, everyone has their own individual choices that can cause a storm.
What do you need to create this look?
From what I’ve seen, sheer tights-either black or a neon color pull this outfit together best, along with either kneehigh boots or simple ballet flats if that is the look you’re going for. And of course, some type of spanx or outdoor underwear over the tights acts as the staple. As for the upper half, I am torn between the oversized blazer/button up combo and a bralette or a sports bra to really amp up the sex appeal. However, to each their own. With the weather warming up, this is a perfect street look to counteract the heat in the air. Just be careful you don’t upset too many Karens with your bare legs.
So, if this is a trend you are going to participate in this Spring, here are some tips and tricks to perfecting this look:
Invest in a good pair of tights
Take an extra spin class that week
Don’t worry about shaving your legs
Strike out,
