Drama Behind the Scenes: Don’t Worry Darling

Don’t Worry Darling, the psychological thriller film directed by and starring actress Olivia Wilde has recently gained an overwhelming amount of attention- for all the wrong reasons. The internet has announced that they don’t care about the film itself but rather all the drama and gossip within the cast dynamics. The cast attended the film premiere at the Venice film festival this past weekend, and when all hell broke loose, it reminded everyone why we love celebrity drama so much.

Buzz surrounding the cast started at the beginning of filming back in 2020 when Shia LaBeouf was cast but was then quickly replaced with Harry Styles due to LaBeouf’s and Wilde’s inability to work together. Then, controversy began when it was rumored that Wilde and fellow cast member Styles were seen holding hands at a wedding and presumingly dating. Besides the large age gap of ten years, Wilde was shamed for allegedly starting this relationship before she and her now ex-husband Jason Sudeikis were officially divorced.

Just to add to all the drama, it was later reported that co-star Florence Pugh did not enjoy seeing her director and fellow actor get handsy with each other on set. She also said in many interviews that she had to “direct herself,” while Wilde was too busy focusing on her love interest. In a recent People article, Wilde shut down the rumors and said that she and Pugh worked very well together on and off set, despite Pugh’s accusations.

Following all the gossip and rumors surrounding the cast, Pugh decided to not attend the prescreening press conference. While she blamed it on fitting in flights to work around her Dune: Part Two shooting schedule, we can all suspect that was not the real reason she chose not to attend. However, like the true movie star that is Florence Pugh, she showed up just in time to look absolutely fabulous on the red carpet at the film festival.

Now onto the most important and truly dramatic moment out of all the Don’t Worry Darling gossip: the spit seen around the world. A viral video of what looked like Harry Styles spitting on Chris Pine at the film’s premiere broke the internet. You can see Pine’s face full of absolute disbelief, shock, and hatred as Styles continued on to mind his own business. Since the spitting incident, Styles has shut down any speculation that he purposefully spit on Chris Pine, and joked at his most recent concert at Madison Square Garden “I popped very quickly to Venice to spit on Chris Pine.”

The ongoing and much talked about drama has given a lot of publicity to the film, but has it increased its popularity? Will viewership increase due to the constant talk of the cast’s gossip and wide-spreading rumors? It will be interesting to see if the film delivers as much interest and enjoyment as watching this cast completely fall apart. While the film only got a 44% on Rotten Tomatoes, the drama gets a 100%. We are all definitely worrying darling.
