Doppelgängers or Clones?: Timothee Chalamet’s Uncanny Look-alikes
The 28-year-old heartthrob, Timothée Chalamet, has proven his acting versatility in many ways. He’s known for his star roles in Willy Wonka, Little Women, and Call Me by Your Name. Out of all the different Timothées he’s shown to the world, I doubt he ever thought they would all end up in the same place. On October 27th in Washington Square Park, there was a look-alike contest held for the actor. Scrawny, fluffy-haired boys from all over the city assembled to replicate some of Timothée’s best looks.
However, there was a stark surprise for the fans when Timothée appeared in the mass. Despite the chaos of a police appearance and even an arrest at the contest, Timothée still managed to see how so many people could mimic his appearance.
Miles Mitchell, the contest winner, replicated one of the actor’s most recent looks: Willy Wonka. Although Miles certainly isn’t Timothée’s clone, he pulled off the purple jacket and hat exceptionally well. The secret to being a clone appears in the facial structure, jawline, and nose. The high cheekbones, skinny nose, and carved-out face may seem like unattractive traits by themselves, but for some reason, they harmonize well on Timothee. His big brown eyes, wavy locks, and thick eyebrows somehow complement the rest of his features magnificently, inspiring all the look-alike costumes and styling.
To add to the absurdity of the contest itself, the Saturday Night Live skit from last Saturday, the 2nd, wraps it up in the best way possible. In case anyone is still wondering how to master the art of becoming a Timothée Chalamet doppelgänger, Chloe Fineman gave us an in-depth tutorial, sung to “Willkommen” from Cabaret, or in this case, “Chalamet.”
She sings, “You can look like Timmy too, watch us. Hunch up your shoulders and mess up your hair,” ending the skit by singing, “We’re Chalamet, we’re Chalamet, we’re Chalamet.” The iconic skits of SNL pull from only the best of pop culture, and the “twinks” of New York City serve as a perfect way to remind us of how a gawky brunette has a way of convincing us all to do crazy things.
Overall, the Timothée Chalamet Look-alike Contest showed us just how many “twinks” there are in New York alone. Looking past the city, I’m sure we could find a million more wannabe-Timothées and see how far they’re willing to go to become the ultimate copycat. Despite the chaos that ensued at the competition itself, it was a success in finding the most accurate look-alike and proving how big of an impact Timothée Chalamet has on the community as a whole. Luckily for Timothée, regardless of how uncanny some of his doppelgängers may be, no one can beat the real thing.
