Cute and Cozy: How to be Comfortable and Still Look Fashionable

I don’t know about you, but I would love to wear joggers and a t-shirt everyday. This can be problematic though, because I still want to dress cute, or as some people say ‘dress to impress’. After hours of looking through Pinterest and multiple models’ Instagrams, I think I finally have my problem figured out. There is an art to looking great without really trying.

My new, favorite fashion trend that is both cute and cozy has to do with loungewear. The sweatshirt and sweatpant sets have really caught my eye.  Anyone who enjoys wearing comfortable, yet fashionable clothing can’t say no to this.  This trend has been blowing up since the beginning of the pandemic, because it is both comfortable and stylish. Despite being trapped indoors for most of the pandemic, it is still uplifting to feel up to date on the latest fashion trends; luckily I was already wearing this one almost everyday! Now, when I first heard that this trend resurfaced,  I was instantly transported back to the early 2000s when Juicy Couture tracksuits could be seen being worn on every street corner; this trend is different though. While it is still as stylish as those neon tracksuits were, it is definitely more understated and relaxed (only if you want it to be though).  And luckily, many brands, like Champion and Shein make it easy to shop for these sets at an affordable cost.

I first noticed this trend when I saw it worn by some of my favorite celebrities. An outfit that typically wouldn’t catch my eye, is definitely noticed if a celebrity wears it. Trends form when a celebrity or someone well known wears something, and then people immediately think it is cute. A few celebrities that have taken advantage of this cute, comfy vibe are Kendall Jenner, Emma Chamberlain, GiGi Hadid, Zendaya, Billie Elish, and Peyton List. Celebrities are always under a microscope, but they do not always have to dress to impress like they are on the red carpet, and luckily they have recently started wearing outfits that are available to almost everyone.

If you are not totally sure how to style your loungewear looks then no worries! I’ve got you covered. Below I am going to list some of my loungewear style tips that help me stay comfortable while also feeling fashionable.

  • For hoodie and sweatpant sets: Roll the bottom of your sweats and sleeves once, maybe twice. I don’t know what it is, but if you're wearing a hoodie and sweatpants, it just adds a little flair to the look. Also, wearing a collared shirt under a crew neck can make your outfit look professional, while also remaining comfy/casual. I would 100/10 recommend doing this.

  • If you aren’t feeling the hoodie and sweatpant set and still want to stay comfy, I would definitely recommend pairing a plain shirt with some ripped jeans or leggings. To take this look to the next level, throw on a belt that goes with your shoes. With this look,  there are a variety of things to take this outfit up a notch. Adding a long necklace or multiple necklaces is always a good move, same thing with bracelets or rings. Make sure that the necklaces are all the same color and aesthetic you are going for. Another stylish thing to do is throw on a white t-shirt, tying it in a knot off the side and adding shoes with some color in it. This way the shoes pop and give your simple look some color. Sarah Jessica Parker and her character Carrie Bradshaw on Sex in the City live for matching cute vibrant shoes with any outfit - there is always a way to tie your shoes into an outfit.

  • If plain shirts and jeans aren’t your thing, then another tip I have for you is to buy clothes that are pastel shades or some shirts with patterns on it. A lot of times patterns can be overwhelming, and if you are wearing something with a pattern, try to match your shoes with a color that matches a color in the pattern.

Dressing cute might seem like a hassle but it doesn’t have to be. Don’t overthink it, everything and anything in your closet can be cute. It all depends on the way you style it. Have some fun with your clothes, and remember that you do not have to sacrifice comfort to gain fashion.
