Beauty 101: College Edition
When was the last time you walked into a store and put back something you wanted?
As college students, there is a huge stigma behind being a “broke college student”. It is hard to find relatable remedies when social media influencers sit in front of their phones and promote items they were given for free, while we are expected to pay an arm and a leg for them.
College is a transitional phase, and with that comes the pressure of finding oneself. However, it is vital to make sure you are taking care of yourself in every aspect. Every individual is different in themselves, so you will have to test out various ways of finding your own identity. For example, if your friend tells you to try a new makeup product because it is their holy grail, that is subjective to them, and you will not know if it is good or not until you formulate your own opinion about it. Does this mean you have to break your wallet to find what self-care remedy fits you best? Hell no!
Finding one's source of happiness and peace can happen in various ways, whether it be by meditating, skin care, going out to your happy place, or even just sleeping (Lord knows we all need that from time to time!).
Men are not excluded from this equation. Another awful stigma we must abolish is the idea that men are not allowed to partake in self-care! That includes skin-care, outlets of peace, and an attention to mental health. It is not exactly convenient living in a society where the mental health of men is taken for granted.
Take a second to really think of your favorite ways to take care of yourself. Personally, I find myself most grounded at the beach. My best friend, however, hates every single aspect of the beach. Ultimately, I cannot preach to you that going to the beach is the perfect method of self-care, because that is my own way of finding peace, but it does not hurt to try! Never allow others to dictate your outlet for peace. Instead, take charge and figure it out for yourself. The moral of the story is to find beauty within yourself, not at the discretion of others. The journey to self-love is a beautiful one!
