“Back to Friends,” Forward to Fame

Shane Boose, famously known as Sombr— or dare I say, music’s next big thing—has been topping charts since the release of his EPs “Back to Friends” and ”Undressed.” Sombr has also been on tour this past year, opening for Daniel Seavey, founding member of the band Why Don't We.

Sombr began making music while enrolled at LaGuardia High School, the alma mater of several stars, including Jennifer Aniston, Timothée Chalamet, and Nicki Minaj. The release of his EP “Caroline” shot him into stardom.

His songs, such as “Back to Friends,” “Undressed,” and “Caroline,” perfectly encapsulate the experience and feelings of young love: the angst, the fleeting excitement, regret, and more, with inspiration from other famously yearning artists such as Bon Iver and Jeff Buckley

While Sombr continues to top charts and gain a massive fan base, he is still the average nineteen-year-old boy. He makes funny and relatable TikToks, reposts and interacts with fans online and in public, and shares his newfound fame with his mother by surprising her with a billboard of him up in NYC, where he grew up.

I am a hopeless romantic who, until college, had never experienced any successful relationship, and I have often spent my time listening to music that portrays those feelings. The unrequited crush. The anger. The wish to be better. Excitement and more. As I think back to my past and current times of wallowing, songs from Sombr have often been in the playlist, yet I never paid any mind till I realized he was going on tour and releasing new music— yes, I know, I'm such a fake fan. Sombr understands those feelings, possibly due to his age or life experiences. He is perhaps a master of the human mind, but either way, he understands, and I love him for it, especially as a fellow sensitive and thoughtful Cancer (#JulyBirthdaysRule).

As he continues to tour through North America and Europe with Daniel Seavey and Nessa Barret, we may finally learn who inspired songs such as “Back to Friends” and ”Caroline” and perhaps, in the future, see him experience another love. As Sombr continues his journey to absolute stardom, other fans will wait to hear more from the rambunctious rockstar.

Strike Out,
