Accessorizing in Chrome
Lately in the world of streetwear, there seems to be one inescapable truth - the Y2K resurgence is not only staying alive, it is thriving. The past few years have seen all kinds of familiar early aughts flare - baggy jeans, baguette bags, microskirts, tanks, tracksuits, trucker hats, bucket hats, low rise pants, and, of course, metallics.
Metallics have had a big role in Y2K style; a period named after fear of technology and entering a new millennium. Anything silver screamed retro futuristic chic. This particular trend is back in a new way; gone are the days of shiny fabrics and eye shadows, now it's all about accessorizing with chrome. From subtle to statement, here is my list of ways to incorporate chrome into your looks.
If nail art is your thing, you don't have to look hard to find all the textured chrome detailing that innovative nail artists are pioneering. From tribal line patterns to liquid metal drips, and even bubble nail reminiscent designs, chrome is starting to decorate every finger. My tip on doing the trend justice? Go for the details - full mirror nails are definitely a cool, bold choice, but going for details gives you room to incorporate more into the style. Try aura nail backdrops, 3d shapes, or even just starting with your favorite classic nail color. Give yourself the freedom to experiment; the best part about this trend is that no one person’s look is exactly the same!
Let's talk about jewelry. I know what you’re thinking - isn't any silver chain basically already chrome? Have the eboys with cross earrings been ahead of the curve? While I love a good classic cuban link, the chrome jewelry trend is more than that; it's experimenting with shape. Inspired by water, “tribal lines”, or even tree branches and other biological structures, these pieces are new and bold. These are new ways to think about jewelry, and the shapes especially well pop in chrome. Want to start small? Try rings! They’ll go with basically any style, an eye-catching addition that will last beyond the trend.
If you want to go all in, other ways to style with chrome are ear cuffs, body jewelry, and even fitted tops are all embracing the trend in new ways.
If there’s one big tip on mastering the modernized chrome look, it would be to make it your own! Color and textures are a must, and picking which ones suit you best are the fun part. Whether it's rings with colored gems and glass, having that bold clothing or eye makeup, or even the nail details, chrome is about having something to reflect and amplify what you already love about your style. Take for example jewler @echoshawna_official on instagram; shapes colors and textures make for incredible statement pieces:
Overall - accessorizing with chrome now means experimenting with shape, texture and most of all, color. I’m not asking you to spray paint over your wardrobe in chrome; instead, let it be a mirror to your own personal style - elevate what you love.
With these tips, you are now prepared to take this trend and use chrome in your own life! Or don't - it's up to you!
