A Post Fashion Month Review: What Will Trend This Winter and Spring?
As fashion weeks around the world are wrapping up and coming to an end, it can be entertaining to analyze and interpret what we will see in mainstream fashion for the upcoming seasons. While it is unlikely that street style will adopt any of the avant-garde, over the top looks from the runway, we know via the Miranda Presley “cerulean blue” monologue in The Devil Wears Prada, high end fashion affects all fashion. With the boom of influencers in attendance at fashion week events, it is certain that the normal folk will be inspired to jump onto these trends sooner rather than later. In fact, we could probably do a lengthy deep dive just on the outfits of fashion week attendees. With all that being said, here is what to keep an eye out for this winter and spring inspired by New York, Paris, and Milan Fashion week.
WHETHER YOU LIKE IT OR NOT, PREPPY IS BACK.

Between the revival of Gossip Girl — the show that did preppy chic better than Martha's Vineyard ever could — and the growing popularity of shows like The Crown, it is almost inevitable that this trend has made its way back to the runway. Now do not fret, I am not telling you to buy bright, colorful polos and patterned Bermuda shorts. Think more like Jackie Kennedy Onassis on the campaign trail meets Princess Diana meets some edgy current street fashion accessories. Christian Dior showcased some very sleek, bright-colored looks falling into this aesthetic like this simple two piece outfit featuring gladiator ballet flats (far-right). Miu Miu took their spin on the style (middle-right) with a deconstructed, school girl-esque outfit. Two very prominent features of this menagerie include layering, which we have already seen growing in mainstream fashion, and a classic black loafer. One of my personal favorites is the warm toned women’s suit set from Markarian (far-left). The subtle yet unique pattern offers that vintage feel that everyone loves, and the close-toed pumps were something heavily spotted in last month's shows. Strappy heels are being switched for these modest, yet subtly sexy alternatives left and right, falling right in with our preppy theme. Finally, we have this frilly and extravagant ensemble from Patou (middle-left). Nothing says luxury and class like a pea coat and lampshade hat combo. The bubblegum pink hues and lacey trim details are absolutely fabulous and truthfully feel like an ode to Jackie. I highly expect button ups, blazers, high-neck blouses with lace trims, matching business wear sets, and closed-toe shoes to be in the forecast for this winter.
EXPECT BLUE TO BE A VERY PROMINENT COLOR IN SPRING 2022.

It was almost impossible not to notice these vibrant shades of blue while analyzing photos from the runway. Stella McCartney (far-right) combined a bohemian-style sky blue smocked dress with royal blue accent sandals and a brown leather bag with the aforementioned cerulean-colored detailing. Then, we have this asymmetric cutout jacket and skirt set by Nina Ricci (middle-right) in an electric blue hue, paired with a fiery orange bandeau top. Loewe (middle-left) played around with the classic Canadian tuxedo and a fun, layered balloon bottom rim on the skirt — proving that blue and denim can work together. Last, but not least, we have this look from Georgio Armani (far-left) — which was one of many outfits in his collection that featured royal blue accent colors. In fact, these are four of of many outfits across all three fashion week events that used these eye-catching shades.
CORSETS ARE STILL IN?

To all my friends who rushed to buy a corset after binging Bridgerton earlier this year (like myself), you are in luck. One popular style we are seeing is the lacy, almost lingerie-like, corsets such as this exquisite set from LaQuan Smith's ready-to-wear line (middle-left). Another notable mention comes from Schiaparelli’s (far-right) sleek, couture line featuring this beautiful black mini dress with satin boning and an abstract neckline. Another from LaQuan Smith's (middle-right) collection is more street style focused: a simple white t-shirt dress with an overlaying white waist corset. Simple and easy to recreate, but still elegant and classy to the appearance. Even Tory Burch jumped in with these two (far-left) dresses showing a rather conservative, fun and colorful vibe — a combination I don’t think anyone expected from them.
KNITS AND CROCHETS ARE BACK!

With all of that being said, fashion month this year was truly iconic and there are hundreds of consistent trends across the board to choose from. Fashion is subjective. So, take all of this with a grain of salt and wear what makes you feel your best. I personally cannot wait for winter styles to hit the streets and see if any of these predictions make the cut.
Strike Out,
