A Love Letter to Lazy Mornings
My dear morning,
Happy Saturday! I can’t believe the long week is finally over. Goodbye to the stress of the past work week with its papers and perpetual homework assignments. When I look outside the window from the comfort of my bed, I feel grateful for you. And since I don’t have anything pressing to do before noon, I thought I’d share my morning routine with you.
1. Lie in bed (for thirty minutes minimum)
There’s simply nothing better than resting in bed after waking up. My alarm doesn’t signal an impending cold walk to class or groggy walk to the dorm bathroom. Instead, I decide to wake up at my own pace (which is, admittedly, slow). I can check my phone, brush my teeth, and put in my contacts without worrying that I won’t be on time. Thank the Lord for lazy mornings.
2. Throw on my comfy sweats
Lazy Saturdays call for comfortable sweats. After a week of pants and sweaters and coats and jeans, my sweats let me breathe a sigh of relief. I’m a big believer in the connection between clothing and expression, and my Saturday sweats clearly express relaxation. Dress to impress begone. Thank the Lord for lazy mornings.
3. Make my first cup of coffee
No morning is complete without coffee, especially lazy mornings. I’m someone who needs coffee everyday, so drinking a cup has become part of my morning groove. Turning on some music and pressing the ‘on’ button for the coffee machine are my perfect Saturday practices. I can confidently say that my caffeine addiction is worth it. Thank the Lord for lazy mornings.
4. Head to roommate brunch
Brunch with friends is arguably the best part of my lazy mornings. Most weekends, my three roommates and I head to our favorite South Bend brunch spot, Peggs, to chat over (more) coffee and two-egg omelets. We spend a carefree morning worrying about nothing and talking about everything. I cherish my time with them and these mornings we share. Thank the Lord for lazy mornings.
Lazy Saturday, you are my most relaxing ritual.
You provide the rest I need after my work week, and I appreciate you. I’m not taking time to waste a morning. My time with you is a necessary and rejuvenating experience, energizing me for the week to come. I feel guilt-free about taking time for myself and slowing down, even if just for a few hours. As this morning fades, I feel a new light shining on the rest of my weekend. Thank you for today.
As always, see you next week.
Strike Out,
