Megan Thee Stallion: A Rising Fashion Icon

Megan Thee Stallion’s rise to fame was sparked from her singles “Cash Shit”, “Big Ole Freak”, and “Body”. Her music has gained a huge following as it allows women to feel empowered (feeling hot!). Megan has become quite an icon in the past year and is now up to par with well-known women artists like Cardi B and Nicki Minaj. As she gains more attention from the public, it is important to acknowledge that her music is not the only thing that has put her in the spotlight.

Megan Thee Stallion’s fashion choices are loved by many. Because of this, she has had multiple interviews with Vogue to discuss her favorite styles in fashion, and the ways she has started to transform the fashion industry. Recently, Megan became the face (and body!) of Calvin Klein’s new campaign. She explained to Vogue how much she’s always loved Calvins: “I really liked that swag in the early ’90s, when I would see the old campaigns for the jeans or the Calvin Klein underwear and bras. When I grew up, I was like, ‘one day, I want to [model for Calvin Klein] – I don’t know how I’m gonna do it, but I want to do it”.

Along with Calvin, she's been recently obsessed with black-owned businesses that she finds via Instagram. But that’s only the start to her use of activism through fashion.

Just last week, we celebrated International Women’s day; a day where we commemorate the cultural, political, and socioeconomic achievements of women. To recognize this day, Megan announced a female empowerment initiative on Instagram that “will give away $1 million dollars in grants and scholarships over the course of this month to amazing women entrepreneurs, female students, women-owned businesses and women-focused charities”  through her collab with Fashion Nova.

The collab began on November 18th - it  involves patchwork denim, and prints that are all size inclusive. So far, Megan has donated $25,000 to YWCA Houston, an organization that has a program called Center for Women. This program helps women and girls advance through life and their careers by providing housing/resources, while also donating $100,000 to the Breonna Taylor Foundation.

Megan’s fashion line is incredibly unique. It is inspiring that she chooses to use her fame in the fashion industry to give back to others. I personally hope to see more of this same activism from Megan in the future as she continues to grow in popularity; she has already done a stellar job at using fashion in order to reach an audience.
