5 female owned brands to support in honor of International Women’s Day
Every year, we acknowledge and celebrate women’s rights nationally on March 8th for International Women’s Day. “Inspire Inclusion” is the theme this year (2024) which is meant to inspire others to look and encourage women's inclusion worldwide. So in honor of that, let’s look at five of the countless female-owned brands that do just that.
1. Hero Cosmetics
In 2017, Hero Cosmetics launched with just one product - the Mighty Patch which was sold on Amazon as a test. Fast forward a few years, and it is now selling a package of Mighty Patch every fifteen seconds. The success of this company is behind Ju Rhyu, the CEO of the company. She is a graduate of Brown University and Columbia Business School.
2. Ouai
Ouai was founded by Jen Atkins in 2016. Jen Atkins is known to be a well-renowned hair stylist and entrepreneur. She began her career in Hollywood with celebrities such as Kim Kardashian, Jessica Alba, and Jennifer Lopez. Ouai was created to help women achieve their healthiest level of hair from the inside and out. Ouai’s products cover a wide range of hair care needs from detox shampoo, scalp treatment, and wave spray.
3. Saie
In November 2019, Laney Crowell launched her own beauty brand with the intent of creating products that are safe to use and well-created. Her mission? To make beauty better with clean products that are sustainable for our planet. Saie even has a must-meet criteria they use to uphold their standards for their highly-valued products called “The Feel Good Five”.
4. Spanx
Sara Blakely is CEO of the shapewear brand Spanx which is known to sell undergarments, leggings, and maternity wear. Spanx was launched in 199 due to Sara’s frustrations with wanting to wear white pants to a party and not have anything show underneath it. After those frustrations, she ended up cutting the feet out of pantyhose, and right then her brilliant and successful business idea formed.
5. SuperGoop
Holly Thaggard is the founder of SuperGoop which started after a friend was diagnosed with skin cancer. From this, she began to provide sunblock to local schools around the area, quickly realizing how vital it was to take care of our skin from the Sun’s UV rays daily. Then on, she set out to create the best SPF for everyone to use to educate and create a product that was easy to apply and spread awareness.
And in honor of International Women’s Day, let us continue celebrating women not just on March 8th, but every day, everywhere, within our past, and forever in our futures. We hope you enjoyed reading about these influential women and the legacies they’ve continued to create and leave behind worldwide.
Strike Out,
Miami
